One of the hardest things about ministering primarily to Korean international students is the cycle of saying goodbye that always happens -- either when they return to Korea or when they graduate. It was very difficult at first, but now I’ve become quite used to it.
Looking back on our 18th anniversary this past September, I feel great gratitude, and I can honestly say there aren’t any truly hard memories that stand out. Yet, I don't feel the need to go back and repeat the whole process. Once is enough.
The most joyful and encouraging part of my 18 years of ministry is staying in touch with the students who have worshipped with us, keeping up with their news, and sharing prayer requests with them. And when they have a chance to return to the U.S. and visit the church, it brings me tremendous joy and thankfulness.
The reason for this joy isn't just that they sought me out; it’s because their return is confirmation that the Saesamm Church community truly served its role as a vessel of God’s love in their lives. As a pastor, it gives me a welcome sense of assurance and gladness that I am doing God’s work properly."
"Last Sunday, a student who had been an exchange student at Rutgers back in January and had since returned home came back to visit our church while in the U.S. We were all surprised!
She had applied for an internship before her graduation and was selected for the program at the Korean Embassy in Washington D.C. She shared that she was currently staying in D.C. and took a bus all the way here just to visit the church.
We had a truly joyful time of worship, shared lunch, and had wonderful conversations, it was a grace-filled time. Such events bring great joy and grace, not only to my husband and me, as pastors, but also to all our church members.
These are the moments that truly become the strength and joy that allow me to continue in ministry. I am sincerely grateful to our faithful working God."
